About Us

Live well 4 longer was started in January 2014 by Penny Ericson and her husband Simon Hawkins.

Our aim is to raise as much money as possible for cancer research and medical training which falls outside the funding capabilities of the National Health Service. Penny and Simon experienced the shortcomings of the NHS at first hand when Simon was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2010 and given just 18 months to live. The fact that Simon is still alive today (and actually typed this article!) is down not only to good fortune and their determination not to give up but also to the wonderful work of the surgeons at the Hampshire Clinic and the Pelican Cancer Foundation.

Penny Ericson is the author of three cook books Polo Picnic, Chemo Cookery Club and Around the kitchen table. If you would like any information on any of these books, just click on the title.

Simon Hawkins is a former property developer whose time, due to his current ill-health, is now spent supporting Penny's work, raising money for cancer and giving talks to cancer patients on the importance of diet and positive thinking. He has also just completed his first novel Proteus... which is available as a download on Amazon with all profits going to Live well 4 longer. He has just started his novels about his experiences with cancer and the health authorities which is very aptly named Guts...
